Alianza Nacional de Campesinas: Best Practices for Representing Immigrant Survivors in the Farmworking community

ASISTA has long advocated for immigrant survivors experiencing workplace sexual violence. Since DHS launched the Labor-Based Deferred Action program in January 2023, ASISTA has sought to educate the field on how immigrants working in various sectors are impacted by sexual violence and abuse. In one study, 80% of farmworker women said they experienced some form of sexual violence on the job. Another study found that about 1/3 of women farmworkers suffer domestic violence. Alianza Nacional De Campesinas is the first national women farmworkers’ organization in the U.S. created by current and former women farmworkers, along with women who hail from farmworker families.

Alianza works tirelessly to ensure that farmworker women and immigrant and migrant survivors of violence have access to life-saving protections and supports, and will join us to discuss the challenges faced by farmworker women experiencing sexual violence both at work and at home. They will also share best practices for building trust with and working with immigrant survivors employed in this sector. ASISTA will be on hand to discuss immigration remedies, including Labor-Based Deferred Action (or DALE) for immigrants who have reported workplace violations.

Intended Audience: Those who serve immigrant survivors in a professional capacity, including attorney and non-attorney advocates.
