Description
Join ASISTA on "Litigation Hot Topics", for a review of recent developments and decisions in federal court litigation surrounding the U visa and other topics affecting immigrant survivors of crime, domestic violence, and/or human trafficking. We will discuss litigation raising issues of importance to immigrant survivors, including but not limited to adjudication delays, extreme hardship determinations, waiver standards, and jurisdiction. Among other things, we will describe ASISTA’s own involvement in litigation, as well as actions underway by our members and partners. We will also walk through critical background considerations, techniques, and strategies (including FOIA) to achieve success either by avoiding litigation or setting your case up to survive government challenges, depending on your client’s aims and the strength of their claims.
Speakers:
- Richard Caldarone, Senior Litigation Attorney, NIJC’s Federal Litigation Project
- Rebecca Eissenova, Senior Staff Attorney, ASISTA
- Cristina Velez, Legal & Policy Director, ASISTA
