In the aftermath of this historic election, we know that immigrants in the US are about to be more imperiled than ever. Ongoing threats of deportation, detention, and family separation only compound the trauma of immigrants who have already experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking, and their children. These survivors urgently need advocates who will stand up for their dignity and help them achieve safety and justice. 

ASISTA, an impactful national nonprofit, has been a transformative advocate for these individuals and their children for many years. As a proud member of ASISTA’s Board of Directors, I am inspired by the organization's longstanding commitment to immigrant survivors of violence, fighting for their rights and protections even in the face of immense challenges. This year is especially significant as we mark the 30th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). ASISTA’s founders played a pivotal role in ensuring that VAWA includes protections for immigrant survivors—a legacy that has already touched hundreds of thousands of lives and continues today.
