Friends,

This is Maureen here--this is not a generic fundraising appeal. I'm here to ask for your help. A lot of people are making demands on your money right now. I'm coming here to ask for the same--but let me tell you, this is a cause in which your money goes A REALLY LONG WAY. 

ASISTA is an organization that helps immigrant survivors of dometic violence, sexual assult, and human trafficking. They help the people who are genuinely the most vunrable--the ones who are unsafe at home and unable to call for help. They do not know if they can go to the emergency room. They do not know if they are safe to dial 911.

This coming adminitration will not treat immigrants and persons without docoumentaion as people. They do no value victims of intimate partner violence. (It would, in fact, seem they perpetrate it.) ASISTA is a lifeline. 

I don't know about this organization in a distant, "saw it on the internet" way. This is me, Maureen, telling you that one of my dearest, longest friends is the director. She is genuinely working night and day to keep it going in the face of what's coming. They are absolutely in the crosshairs of the new administation. It's already starting. Sorry for the bold and ital but really, they are in trouble.

Right now, they need money to keep the doors open. They managed to get a match donor who will double every donation up to $20,000. If this fundraiser can raise $20,000, the match will take it to $40k. More would be fantastic.

I know giving can feel like you are throwing money into the ether and hoping it helps. This effort will truly impact a group of people who are already unsafe at home, and are about to be punished from the world outside in a truly horrific way. Every buck you send is a brick in the wall that ASISTA builds to protect them. If you can give, incredible. Or could you show this to someone. This is a real pass the hat situation and it will save lives.
